Big Hen Island is a 25-acre wooded island situated at the head of Ridley Cove. It is substantially undeveloped, provides a scenic view from the waters of Casco Bay and nearby Cundy's Harbor, and supports the variety and health of the Casco Bay ecosystem. It has an entirely undeveloped shoreline, gently contoured uplands, wetland areas, a sand and pebble beach, a mixed hard and soft wood forest, harbors a diversity of plant and animal life, and contains extensive areas of intertidal rocky shore.

Easement Purpose
To preserve the natural and ecological features of Big Hen Island, to preserve its scenic beauty as viewed from the waters of Casco Bay and public areas on nearby islands and the mainland, and to foster continued responsible conservation of the land. Limited residential and other activities that are consistent with protection of the natural and scenic qualities of the island are permitted.
