The 222-acre Austin Cary Lot on Great Island is owned by the State of Maine and managed by the Baxter Park Authority as a demonstration woodlot and for limited recreational use. Extensive salt water frontage on Long Reach & Doughty Cove as well as salt and fresh water wetlands are featured amongst the distinctive topography of the Lot's north/south ridges Logging and old woods roads form a network of unmarked trails, but the trails are not maintained and bushwhacking is often required to walk them.
